Some Bronx residents are without a job after Jet, a grocery delivery service through Walmart, announced it will be closing its Bronx fulfillment center Friday.
The distribution center opened in the fall of last year. The company says it's discontinuing its fresh grocery delivery service in New York City.
Jet tells News 12 that between 200 and 300 employees have been fired. It says customers heavily relied on Jet for dry groceries and general merchandise, but not fresh groceries.
The company said in part, "We learned a lot by testing Jet fresh grocery delivery in New York City, and we recognized the important role our stores play in providing an efficient way to offer groceries to customers through pickup and delivery. We will focus our grocery pickup and delivery in markets where we have this incredible opportunity."
Jet says it's offering associates that have been fired pay for the next three months, which will give them time to find another job.
