The state's School Boards Association is looking to make teacher discipline in the Bronx and the rest of the city faster and cheaper. The group claims the process for disciplining teachers accused of misconduct or having inappropriate relationships with students is severely flawed. Among the things group members want changed are that teachers do not have to testify at hearings and that most teachers collect full pay if they are suspended during an investigation. The president of the state's United Teachers Union says he does agree there are changes that should be made, but the group's desired changes would eliminate the constitutional rights of the accused teachers.
