Six months after battling the coronavirus and being hospitalized, a Bronx woman says she is still dealing with side effects.
Maria Lamorgese, 55, became sick with COVID-19 in August. Her therapist, Todd Benevento, says the virus left Lamorgese completely weak.
"I had to put a plan together,” said Benevento.
While Lamorgese was fighting the coronavirus, so were 10 other relatives -- including her parents.
"My mother was put in the next room in intensive care where I was,” said Lamorgese. “My father was in a regular room."
Lamorgese was able to leave the hospital, but she says her father never did.
“I know my father is looking down on me and mom, I know that he wanted us to survive,” said Lamorgese.
She calls her recovery a ‘miracle’ and says the coronavirus has been ravaging her lungs. Lamorgese has been in physical therapy and says at one point needed the help of two liters of oxygen.
"When you fast forward to right now, she's completing her last two to three exercise sessions now with no oxygen,” said Benevento.
Lamorgese received her COVID-19 vaccine last Friday. She is asking everyone to do what they can to avoid getting sick.
