Family and friends came out Friday to say their final goodbyes to the man who was gunned down over a week ago in a Canarsie apartment building where he lived.

They paid their final respects to 44-year-old Zamel Myers.

His mother, Delores Myers, was overwhelmed by grief as she said this was her second son who died because of gun violence.

“I’m shocked. I’m overwhelmed, you know, I’m just numb right now because I’m coming to out to lay another one of my sons to rest and this is not easy. It’s no mother’s dream, it’s a mother’s nightmare. For someone to take his life like that, I’m a little angry at that. Really angry. But God has given me the strength to keep on going,” she said.

Loved ones said Zamel Myers was a loving father and son, and they want him to be remembered as someone who was respectable, hardworking and a family man.

He leaves behind three children.

Police said he died on July 10 after being shot inside his building at the Breukelen Houses.

Longtime friend Tameka Tucker said she’s devastated about this loss but added she has fond memories of him.

“It’s never a good feeling. He was very protective, funny, you know, the dancer. I mean, that’s always been Mel,” Tucker said.

Delores Myers said the grieving process has been extremely difficult for her but she’s just trying to push on.

Police data shows there have been more than 700 shootings across the city this year, and Zamel Myers’ loved ones are pleading for people to stop the gun violence.
