Some local health workers are pushing a new initiative to make the Bronx a healthier place.
As part of the Healthy Beverage Challenge, they are asking residents and workplaces to get rid of sugary drinks in favor of healthier liquids such as water.
The Bronx is one of 50 finalists in the healthiest cities and counties challenge, having already received $10,000 to ensure water is the main beverage in schools, on the job and out on the streets.
Fourteen organizations have signed up to be part of the initiative headed by the Union Community Health Center and its partners.
If the Bronx wins, it will get a $500,000 award to support the program.
The Bronx has previously been ranked the most unhealthy county in New York.
