307ds agoThe New York City Department of Correction reported an inmate death at Vernon C. Bain Center on Wednesday.
The DOC says the inmate was reported dead at 10:50 a.m. at NYC Health + Hospitals/Lincoln.
In a press release, the Department of Correction states that the cause of death is under investigation with confirmation pending from the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner.
The Department of Correction says the inmate appeared to be in medical distress.
“I am devastated to see that we have yet another death in custody, and determined to stop this heartbreaking trend. We are doing all we can to remedy the unprecedented crisis we are experiencing in our jails. My thoughts and prayers are with the individual’s loved ones,” says Commissioner Vincent Schiraldi.
The Department of Correction says the identity of that inmate is being withheld at this time.
