A heat advisory was issued through Wednesday night, and the real feel could reach up to 105 degrees in some parts of the city, according to the National Weather Service.
City officials are urging New Yorkers to take the heat seriously and make a plan early—before the temperatures hit those dangerous levels.

How to beat the heat:

  • Go somewhere cool – Cooling centers, libraries or a friend’s place with AC
  • Drink lots of water – Even if you’re not thirsty
  • Avoid being outside midday – Especially between 11 a.m. and 4 p.m.
The city says it's also working with Con Edison to keep the power grid stable—a big deal after multiple outages during hot days earlier this summer.
They’re asking New Yorkers to do their part by:
  • Setting your air conditioner to a comfortable temp (around 78 degrees)
  • Turning off lights and appliances when not in use
  • Avoiding running big appliances like dishwashers and dryers during the hottest hours

Check on your neighbors

Heat can be especially dangerous for older adults, people with certain health conditions, and folks without access to air conditioning. If you know someone who might be at risk, check in on them—or help them get to a cooling center.
