Tenants at 575 Herkimer St. started a rent strike this month to protest what they say are dangerous living conditions inside their apartments.
They say the building lacks heat and is infested with mold and pests.
Protesters say they began the rent strike on Feb. 1 due to what they describe as decades of dangerous living conditions. The complex is owned by Jason Korn - who was named the city's worst landlord in 2019 and 2020 in a report by New York Public Advocate Juumane Williams.
Tenants from Korn's buildings around the city founded the Kornucopia Tenant Coalition to have their voices heard.
State Sen. Jabari Brisport and several politicians joined the protest.
The residents say they will not pay Korn any rent until the issues are resolved.
Tenants say they will be calling the Department of Housing, Preservation and Development to report a mass lack of heat in the building.
News 12 reached out to Korn for comment.
