The Bronx Community Foundation and the Bronx borough president's office are collaborating to host New York's first cannabis retail experience this weekend.
Buyers, sellers, growers and interested New Yorkers will be able to see what shopping in a New York City dispensary could look like - from the technology all the way down to the replica products.
"If you'd have told me this 20 years ago... I'd tell you, 'You were lying,'" said Matthew Robinson, who snagged one of the first Conditional Audit Use Retail Dispensary (CAURD) licenses last month.
"It's going to give me an idea of what my store should look like and how it should run."
Attendees learned about job opportunities, regulations and health benefits. Deputy Bronx Borough President Janet Peguero says this pop-up is all about strength in numbers.
"Different city agencies, state agencies, grass roots organizations, community-based organizations are connecting with folks and educating them," said Peguero.
Fellow CAURD license holder Marquis Hayes says he was in disbelief when awarded one of the first dispensary licenses, and he is excited to learn as he builds his business.
"It's hard to believe you get the keys to do something that they reprimanded you for decades at a time and drilled into you that it was negative," said Hayes.
The Bronx Dispensary Showroom will be open through Sunday evening at the historic Bronx Post Office. Events such as mock interviews, workshops, and networking opportunities will be taking place all weekend.
