A Brooklyn pharmacist is giving back to her community and going above and beyond to accommodate patients during the coronavirus pandemic.

Marta Giammarino has been a pharmacist for over 30 years. "Whatever it is that we need to do for the patients and help the patients, we do that here at Kings,” said Giammarino.

Giammarino is Cuban and works daily on outreach with her Spanish-speaking patients. She helps them understand the medications they are taking.

Now, with many patients afraid of leaving their home due to COVID-19, she is driving hours across the city to deliver medication to her patients who are in dire need.

"I took an oath as a health care professional to help patients, and that's what I love to do. And I get a lot of self-satisfaction from knowing that I've helped people overcome some of the things that they need to overcome when it comes to medication,” said Giammarino.

She says the pandemic has amplified long-standing challenges for independent pharmacies.

Now, she’s pushing for legislation to be passed that would help regulate the cost of prescription drugs as she continues doing her part to make contributions to the community.
