Many holiday shoppers got a head start on Black Friday after Thanksgiving dinner.
Of about 164 million people that the National Retail Federation says will shop over the weekend, about 32 million were estimated to start on Thanksgiving Day. Predictions place another 115 million in stores on Friday.
Some stores, like J.C. Penny, opened up at 2 p.m. on Thanksgiving Day — an hour earlier than last year. It will remain open until 10 p.m. Friday.
Kmart opened up even earlier -- at 6 a.m., and planned to close at midnight. On Black Friday, it set its opening at 6 a.m.
The Retail Federation also says it expects huge sales on Cyber Monday — enough to make this year the first where online shopping wins out as the most popular choice.
