Officials say they are bracing for what they estimate could be a massive spike in COVID-19 cases after Thanksgiving.
News 12 was invited inside the North Central Bronx Hospital COVID-19 ICU Unit.
Doctors were setting up state-of-the-art ventilators next to currently empty hospital beds.
Gov. Andrew Cuomo said New York City saw a 3.17% coronavirus infection rate on a seven-day rolling average. The total number of hospitalization throughout the city and state rose to 2,856 and new positive cases totaled to 4,881 within the last 24 hours.
Doctors say the ventilators are crucial for helping patients experiencing severe symptoms.
Elected officials and doctors are urging people not to celebrate Thanksgiving with people outside of your household.
