As the heat lingers in New York City and a heat advisory remains active, Con Edison is reminding their customers to use their energy wisely.

The energy company reminds New Yorkers to clean out the air filters in their air conditioners to ensure that they’re working at peak efficiency, and to set thermostats no lower than 78 degrees.

Con Edison says each degree lower than 78 can increase cooling costs by 6% and says residents should shut air conditioners, lights, and appliances off when you’re not home.

If you don’t have access to air conditioning, click here to find a cooling center near you.
