A new survey suggests the New York accent may be losing some of its charm.

The survey of 3,000 adults across the country by The Word Finder found New York's well‑known pronunciations are viewed as part of a group of accents people believe are dying out. Respondents also pointed to Philadelphia and New England as places where they feel accents are not as strong as they once were.

Researchers said those dialects historically held up over time because of classic movie one‑liners. The survey found the accents people think are fading the most are Appalachian and the Southern drawl.
