A "slumlord" will serve jail time for failing to make repairs to a Highbridge building with more than 2,000 violations, officials announced Wednesday.Hamid Khan was recently sentenced to nine days in jail for criminal contempt. The Department of Housing Preservation and Development was demanding he fix problems at 1055 University Ave.
The 94-unit, six-story building has 2,268 outstanding housing code violations, which include severe water damage, collapsed floors and ceilings, construction debris, defective fire escapes, mold and rats.
Last year, the city placed Khan on the list of its new Alternative Enforcement Program, which targets repeat offenders.HPD has performed more than $50,000 worth of emergency repairs at the site in the last year.
