Hundreds of people lined the street Monday in front of Republican Congressman Nick LaLota's Hauppauge office at 515 Hauppauge Road.

Protestors tell News 12 they are demanding that Rep. LaLota host an in-person Town Hall in the district.

"LaLota's on congressional recess right now and the purpose of recess is to come to your home district and meet with your constituents, he's not doing that. So in the absence of that, we are coming to him, we are taking to the streets to raise our voice, to raise our issues." said Emily Kaufman, with the group Long Island Network for Change (LINC).

Protesters also say they're against President Donald Trump's cuts to the federal government and Elon Musk's role with the administration.

"No one elected Elon Musk and nobody gave Trump authority to do what he's doing." said protester Hank White of Smithtown.

Protesters told News 12 they don't want LaLota to support cuts they believe will negatively impact Long Islanders.

In an email to News 12, Harrison Fields, Principal Deputy Press Secretary said, “This President’s Day, we honor the leadership of President Trump. He received a resounding mandate from the American people and swiftly took action to deliver on his promises of restoring common sense policies, strengthening the economy, and re-establishing America’s dominance on the world stage. President Trump is a leader for all Americans, and he will continue to prioritize America’s interests in every decision.”

News 12 reached out to LaLota's office for a response to the protest and is waiting to hear back.
