The father of a Bronx resident accused of running over and killing a city EMT worker with her own ambulance is speaking out after his son’s court hearing on Tuesday.
Jose Gonzalez has been charged with murder, manslaughter and robbery in the 2017 death of Yadira Arroyo.
Gonzalez is accused of hijacking Arroyo’s ambulance and killing her with her own ambulance in 2017. So far, two independent court appointed psychologists have found Gonzalez competent to stand trial. On Tuesday, his lawyer requested time to review the client's video and psych examinations, which were granted by the judge.
However, Gonzalez’s father says that what happened to the veteran EMT was unfortunate but that his son was just trying to seek help during their encounter.
"I am sorry that happened, but she had options too, she just ran out of the ambulance," said Gonzalez's father.
Both families agree that the case is moving too slow.
Gonzalez is due back in court on Dec. 13.
