36-year-old Mireya Garcia posted a TikTok video on Sunday about the freezing conditions in her apartment.
"It's freezing in the house," said the mother in the video.
Garcia's video reached more than 200,000 views, and the comment section was filled with hundreds of messages from concerned people.
On Tuesday, Garcia spoke with News 12 exclusively about what drove her to post the now viral video.
"It's just been so unbearable, unlivable, and a lot of us are getting sick," she said.
The mother was scared for her families well-being, after she walked into her eight-year-old daughter's room and saw steam coming out of her mouth.
"I was like, you can't play in here. This is crazy. And I grabbed my phone," she said.
Garcia is not the only tenant at 911 Walton Ave. living with no heat. According to the Department of Housing Preservation and Development
website, there are over 100 violations with several complaints for "no heat" currently open.
"In the building's basement, a management employee told News 12, "the issue was that the boiler broke," adding, "it should be up running tonight."
News 12 reached out to HPD but have not heard back.
