Kids in the Bronx will now be able to skate at the newly renovated ice rink at the Kips Bay Boys & Girls Club in Castle Hill.
A ribbon-cutting was held on Monday for the reopening of the rink, which is the only ice rink in the Bronx.
Around 50 kids are currently registered with the skate club at the center, which gives them the chance to learn from professional hockey players from the New York Rangers.
Members of the Rangers work with the kids to teach them basics on the ice and introduce them to sports like figure skating or ice hockey.
Daniel Quintero, executive director of the Boys & Girls Club, says the goal is to provide Bronx youth with access to opportunities, education and developmental programs they may otherwise not be exposed to.
The first community skate will take place on Dec. 9, and skates are included.
