Workers at Cibao Dominican Ices in Longwood are busy preparing for a surge of customers during this extreme heat.
The owner of the family-run business, which has been serving the Bronx for 25 years, says about 20 ice carts leave this location each day, with several more operating from other locations across the city.
Workers spent the morning loading carts with Dominican ices, cutting dry ice to keep the treats frozen, wrapping the products in cardboard for insulation and stocking popular flavors before heading out.
While frozen treats can offer a refreshing break from the heat, health officials continue to remind New Yorkers to drink plenty of water, limit time outdoors during the hottest hours of the day and check on vulnerable neighbors during the extreme heat.
