The Department of Buildings issued two violations to Luna Park following a malfunction with the Cyclone. These violations include the failure to maintain the coaster and failure to notify the department immediately when the breakdown occurred.
The Cyclone will remain closed until the necessary repairs are made and the ride passes a final inspection.
On Thursday, Aug. 22, the ride was evacuated mid-ride due to crack in the chain sprocket located in the ride’s motor room. The New York City Department of Buildings noted there is no damage to the coaster's tracks or main structure.
Local riders expressed their concerns over safety, but resident, Francis, says he is hopeful for the future of the ride,
"I'm hoping that they can fix it to where it's up to standard, up to code, to where everybody can ride it for another 40, 50 years," he said.
