Another inmate has died at Riker’s Island following a medical episode.

Officials say an officer discovered a man in need of medical attention and immediately provided aid just after midnight.

The man was taken to a nearby hospital where he was pronounced dead.

The city’s Correction Commission released a statement saying, "A man in the department's custody tragically passed away after being transported to the hospital. The care of everyone who resides in our facilities is our highest priority and we mourn his loss. Our deepest sympathies go out to his loved ones. The incident will be thoroughly investigated.”
