Your license plate may soon be costing you if you are not complying with the new set of city rules, spearheaded by the Department of Transportation and the NYPD.
A $50 fine is on the line for those who do not comply with the city's new plate visibility crackdown. Plate obstruction is the key, and all plans to go into effect on April 16.
To start, plates must be fully fastened to your vehicle and 12 to 48 inches above the ground for full visibility. Plates should also be kept clean - free from rust or coverings that may obstruct its legibility to the human eye or enforcement cameras.
Remember that even though your plate was once a compliant, it may not be anymore. Routine inspections can help prevent any confusion.
Department of Transportation Commissioner Ydanis Rodriguez hopes this will help "protect public safety." NYPD Commissioner Jessica Tisch also adding that the crackdown will make city streets safer.
