October is Physical Therapy Awareness Month, and a Bronx native and future physical therapist is getting a hands-on experience on the career at Montefiore in the Bronx.
Josue Herrera is a rehabilitation aid at Montefiore that assists physical therapists, but he says his passion for the career sparked out of his love for sports and exercise.
"When I found out that there is a career that can help people through exercise get back to doing those things that they love or just improving their day to day lives, I feel like that was just a no-brainer. I was like this is the thing I want to do," said Herrera.
"I'm learning this in school, but here I'm getting to see it in action in a sense and get to see it firsthand," said Herrera.
Herrera tells News 12 he started off as a volunteer at Montefiore and is expected to graduate from physical therapy school in the year 2025.
