305ds agoThousands gathered in Asbury Park Sunday to enjoy the 31st annual statewide LGBTQ+ pride celebration.
The festivities kicked off at noon with a parade and rally outside of City Hall, boasting nearly 20,000 people in attendance.
It was a day filled with more than 200 vendors, 150 volunteers and festivalgoers from all over the country. For many, it was all about celebrating New Jersey's acceptance and advances in gay pride while spreading awareness.
Asbury Park has been fighting for LGBTQ+ rights dating back to the 1960s. In 1992, the first pride parade was held.
The festival marks the largest and oldest pride celebration in New Jersey – one of many scheduled throughout Pride Month.
