The hottest weekend of the year brought
tens of thousands to the Jersey shore as a preview of what this summer could
look like.
Leaders from Monmouth County held their
annual State of the Summer tourism preview along the boardwalk in Asbury Park.
Tourism revenue in Monmouth County
increased from $1.8 billion in 2020 to $2.3 billion in 2021.
Mayor John Moore of Asbury Park said,
"If it's nice weather we'll be booked every weekend. This past weekend we
were hammered. People have cabin fever. May has been pathetic weather-wise so
it was such a nice weekend. It was like a Saturday in July."
County leaders say there are still plenty
of summer jobs available at the beach area businesses, but they don't expect to
see the same major job shortages experienced last year.
