A warning is going out to anyone trying to get or renew a passport.
The Better Business Bureau says people are spending an average of $88 on sites like "US Passport and Visa.com" and only receiving a free form available from the State Department.
Melissa Companick of the BBB says the site is not affiliated with the government and could put users at risk of identity theft.
She says the site asks for personal details, including passport numbers and payment information, which could be used for phishing.
When Kane in Your Corner visited the site, a security alert warned of a malicious attack, though the threat was blocked.
Attempts to contact the site were unsuccessful — there was no phone number or address, only a web form that went unanswered.
The BBB recommends using the official State Department portal and warns that expeditor services may charge more without speeding up the process.
If you've been scammed, the BBB urges you to report it so others can be warned.
