A Key Food Supermarket in Soundview is closing its doors after more than 20 years.
The supermarket, located in the Bruckner Plaza on Bruckner Boulevard, will close in mid-October. A sign posted on the store says the supermarket lost its lease.
Key Food has long been a staple of the shopping center. Customers say they are concerned about where they will shop - particularly seniors, who will have to walk farther to buy groceries.
Bruckner Plaza is managed by Urban Edge Properties, a division of Vornado Realty, which owns the property. Residents say the two groups have been unwilling to work with the community to keep Key Food open.
A Western Beef, which used to be a Pathmark, is set to open in the next couple weeks. Despite being less than a half-mile from Key Food, some residents say that it's still too far of a walk for senior citizens.
News 12 reached out to both Key Food and the plaza's owner, but has not yet heard back from either.
