The sun was shining bright over the Coney Island Boardwalk when News 12 crews met up with NBA legend and sneaker icon Stephon Marbury.
Marbury will be a speaker at Sneaker Con at Maimonides Park this weekend.
Marbury is a Coney Island native, two-time NBA all star and former Knicks player.
He's also carved out a name for himself in the sneaker world with a groundbreaking $14.99 pair of kicks called the Starbury.
"All I wanted to do was create access for all, that's it," he said. "A parent didn't have to feel that stress and that worry to provide for a kid that wants what the other kid got."
Marbury has since started a new line of sneakers called Xavier-3.
"The first thing I wanted to do is make sure the shoe is comfortable," he said. "This shoe has different things you can do with it. you can detach the shoe and put the tongue on or off.
Marbury has also played basketball in China and even coached a team there.
He said for him, basketball and sneaker culture go hand in hand.
