KIPP NYC College Prep School held a pep rally Friday to celebrate the 10th anniversary of its first graduating class.
The school opened its doors in 2009 and graduated its first class of seniors in 2013.
The students brought out their school spirit in the gymnasium on Friday for a pep rally. Students cheered on their classmates on the dance team, step team, pep band and cheerleading squad.
All five boroughs were represented at the pep rally, with 1,700 people present for the event. Teachers and staff of the school say they look forward to events like these that allow them to give back.
“It’s so important that we develop the whole child, that’s not just academics, but that we foster and nurture other kids that are involved in multiple things,” said Janelle Taylor, the arts department chair at KIPP NYC.
The homecoming game for the boys' football team takes place on Saturday against Brooklyn’s South Shore Vikings.
