As the holiday shopping season comes to a close, retailers are bracing for an estimated $150 billion in returns.
However, a Kane in Your Corner investigations finds that some merchants are cracking down on return fraud, which is estimated to have cost retailers over $100 billion in 2023.
Retailers such as REI, Target, and Amazon are now reserving the right to refuse returns or charge processing fees. The Better Business Bureau notes that this policy only applies to customers who return 80% of items they purchase.
Return Windows for Major Retailers:
Apple: Jan. 8
Best Buy: Jan. 14
Amazon and Walmart: Jan. 31 (sooner for some items)
Target and Kohls: 90 days
LL Bean and Zappos: 1 year
Costco and Nordstrom: No time limit
