Crews were out in Lakewood Monday evening battling a massive fire at a lumber yard.
The three-alarm fire began around 4:20 p.m. Thick smoke was seen coming from the Ocean Avenue lumber years for miles.
There are some reports that some people were trapped inside the building when the fire first began and at least two people may have been injured. News 12 is still waiting to hear from officials to confirm this information.
Route 88 is shut down between Clifton and Park avenues.
“It happened right off the block on the lumber yard. I was inside my work right behind us…I just see a ton of smoke and not much flame but a lot of smoke,” said witness Josh Wenger.
The building was said to be vacant. But police say that two people – believed to be squatters – suffered injuries and were treated at the hospital.
The cause of the fire was not immediately known.
