A New York congresswoman plans to introduce legislation to make Bronx and city bodegas stock healthier options.
Congresswoman Nydia Velazquez says her bill would increase access to fresh produce and healthy alternatives in low-income communities. The ?Bodegas as Catalysts for Healthy Living Act? would help bodegas and grocery markets to access resources that will enable them to expand their stock of healthier food alternatives. The legislation would also provide communities with access to educational programs about healthy lifestyles.
Velazquez believes the bill could help cut increased rates of obesity and related diseases such as diabetes, stroke and heart conditions.
