LIRR experiences delays on Ronkonkoma and Port Jefferson branches after train fatally strikes person

The MTA says delays are between 15 and 20 minutes Ronkonkoma and Port Jefferson branches.

A Long Island Rail Road train fatally struck a person Saturday afternoon, causing delays on the Ronkonkoma and Port Jefferson branches.

The MTA says the train with scheduled service from Ronkonkoma to Penn Station struck a person on the tracks east of the Westbury Station at 2:22 p.m. The person was not authorized to be on the tracks.

Nassau County Fire Rescue pronounced the victim dead at the scene.

There were no injuries to the train crew or passengers, according the MTA.

There are 15 to 20 minute delays on the Ronkonkoma and Port Jefferson branches as of Saturday evening. The MTA says customers should consult the TrainTime app or mta.info for updated schedule information.
