Audio has been released of the 911 call made by ex-NYPD officer Michael Valva. Valva has been charged with the murder of his 8-year-old son Thomas.
Valva is heard on the call saying, "I need an ambulance immediately, my son's not breathing." He tells the 911 operator that his son "fell down, banged his head" and gave him a "shower to help him out a bit ... stopped breathing."
Valva is heard performing what he says are CPR compressions during the call as crews descended on his Center Moriches home.
A grand jury indictment against Michael Valva and his fiancée Angela Pollina charged both with second-degree murder.
The pair is accused of forcing the boy to spend the night in a freezing garage. The next morning, he was rushed to a hospital where he was pronounced dead. Officials say Thomas died of hypothermia.
Thomas' mother Justyna Zubko-Valva says she had been reporting the alleged abuse to Child Protective Services, but she says nothing was done.
