A redesign of the Cross Bronx Expressway may be coming soon, and city agencies are looking for community input on how to carry the project out. 

Many people who commute using the Cross Bronx Expressway voiced their concerns about traffic, but Bronx residents who live in close proximity are worried about the debris and pollution that could come from such a large-scale project.  

The Cross Bronx Expressway is aptly named – it cuts directly through the borough from the George Washington Bridge all the way to the Throgs Neck Bridge, with hundreds of trucks passing through daily.  

In December 2022, Mayor Eric Adams kicked off a landmark study to reimagine the roadway. Now, the U.S. Department of Transportation Is funding this study with a $2 million grant as part of the Rebuilding American Infrastructure with Sustainability and Equity Program.  

On Tuesday, Bronx residents participated in a hand-on workshop to help redesign the Cross Bronx Expressway from the Harlem River to the Hutchinson River Parkway, with stations spread through the workshop that focus on air quality and health.
