Local school districts announce early dismissals for total solar eclipse

More local schools announce their plans for April 8 solar eclipse.

The April 8 total solar eclipse is less than one week away, and local schools have already announced early dismissals to allow students and faculty to witness the celestial show.
Here's a list of when schools are expected to dismiss for the day:
  • The Mount Vernon City School District: early dismissal at 11:30 a.m. for the high school, pre-K through 8th grade early dismissal at 12 p.m.; the district office will close at 1 p.m.
  • Chappaqua Central School District: one-hour early dismissal for all schools
  • Croton-Harmon Union Free School District: early dismissal at 1:30 p.m. for CET Elementary School only
  • Greenburgh Central School District: Bailey and Woodlands early dismissal at 12:30 p.m., all other schools dismissed early at 1:30 p.m.
  • Pocantico Hills Central School District: early dismissal for all schools at 2:15 p.m.
  • Tuckahoe Union Free School District: all schools will dismiss on a half-day schedule
  • Valhalla Union Free School District: one-hour early dismissal for all schools
  • East Ramapo Central School District: the high schools will dismiss at 11 a.m., the elementary schools will dismiss early at 11:40 a.m. and the middle schools will dismiss at 12:40 p.m.
  • Nyack Public Schools: early dismissal for the high school at 10:30 a.m., 11:00 a.m. dismissal for the middle school, and the elementary schools will let out at 11:30 a.m.
  • Highland Central School District: early dismissal for the high school at 10:15 a.m., early dismissal for the middle school at 10:30 a.m. and early dismissal for the elementary school at 11:15 a.m.
  • The Newburgh Enlarged Central School District: half-day for all schools
  • The Pine Bush Central School District: half-day for all schools
  • The Washingtonville Central School District: closed already for Superintendent's Conference day
