Damage from Superstorm Sandy in 2012 was still evident at the Locust Point Marina, but renovations have brought new docks and a new restaurant to the site.

The NYC Parks-owned marina became available through a bidding process to new operators in 2023, amid some protest from the community.

City law states license agreements for NYC Parks-owned land open up to a bidding process when they expire.

David and Christy Schmitt are the owners of the new Buster’s Marina and Dakota’s on the Cove, the restaurant in front of the marina in Throgs Neck.

They say they are planning several community events over the next year.
