Long Beach police threaten penalties for attendees of planned illegal beach party

Long Beach police say people who showed up for a rumored party on the Long Beach boardwalk Saturday night would be penalized.
A Sunset Party organized and promoted on social media brought in nearly 2,500 people on the beach and boardwalk last month. The gathering was in violation of city laws and partygoers dispersed slowly.
Just after midnight, though, police say shots were fired and two people were arrested. With rumors of another possible gathering, police stepped up patrols on the boardwalk and the West End.
Long Beach Police Commissioner Ronald Walsh says that the city has strict rules and permits for large beach gatherings - something the sunset part organizers don't have.
Police were looking for any large groups and underage drinking.
