New data show water quality in most of Long Island Sound is trending in the right direction.
Environmental group Save the Sound says 98% of the open waters received at least a B grade.
However, about half of the region's bays and harbors earned a C grade or lower.
New Rochelle Harbor received a B-minus grade this year, matching its 2024 score.
Inner Norwalk Harbor remained at an F grade.
"Some of the main stressors on our bays and harbors in respect to environmental health are fertilizer usage, stormwater runoff, a big vector of pollution to our bays and harbors, also wastewater treatment plant infrastructure," said Peter Linderoth of Save the Sound.
Officials say harmful algae blooms, pollution and the effects of climate change also contribute to poor grades.
