The man accused of stabbing a 22-year-old Bronx man to death on the Upper East Side of Manhattan Tuesday morning is now facing charges.
It happened at the intersection of Third Avenue and East 94th Street around 1:15 a.m.
Police say Xavier Olivares and a woman were walking along a construction area when the two were confronted by 19-year-old Gustavo Rodriguez. They say Rodriguez began arguing with Olivares. Police say Rodriguez pulled out a knife and began to stab Olivares in the chest.
Olivares and the woman are believed to have a child together, but were currently separated. Police say Rodriguez is the current boyfriend of the woman with whom Olivares has a child.
Police say Olivares suffered multiple stab wounds and was rushed to Metropolitan Hospital by a cab, but later died at the hospital.
The victim's father says his son was a good guy and didn't deserve to die.
Rodriguez is facing murder and assault charges as well as criminal possession of a weapon.
