Man fatally shot at 170th Street subway station identified, gunman on the run
Police say 41-year-old Adrian Dawodu, of Manhattan, was shot to death on Tuesday afternoon. This is the first homicide aboard transit for the year.

Police have identified the man who was fatally shot in the subway at the 170th Street Station.
Police say 41-year-old Adrian Dawodu, of Manhattan, was shot to death on Tuesday afternoon. This is the first homicide aboard transit for the year.
News 12 obtained video taken from a passenger as those shots were fired on the platform. Dawadou was seen lying on the ground while the gunman ran away. The incident happened just before 3 p.m., a time when kids are dismissed from school and the afternoon rush begins.
Police say there was a fight right before the shooting between the gunman and the victim. Dawadou was shot multiple times and died at the hospital.
“I definitely don’t feel safe here on a daily basis,” said Isaiah Espinnosa, a Bronx resident who takes the subway every day.
He said he’s tired of seeing and hearing incidents of violence and drug use on the subway.
Right after the shooting, police got a tip that the gunman was hiding on Townsend Avenue, but he was nowhere to be found. Police say they’re looking for a man wearing a grey parka, beige sweatshirt, white pants and black sneakers.
Mayor Zohran Mamdani said the situation is heartbreaking and that gun violence prevention is a top priority.
Meanwhile, a law enforcement source told News 12 that transit overtime hours have been recently cut. He said that has led to fewer police officers or none at all patrolling critical stations like 170th Street.
This is not the first time gun violence has happened at this station. There was another shooting at the 170th Street Station just over a month ago. A teen was taken into custody in that shooting.
