Police say a man was fatally shot in the head in Crotona Park East.

It happened around 1:16 p.m. Friday near 1420 Stebbins Ave.

Police identified the victim as Samir Palacios, 35, from the Bronx.

EMS took Palacios to NYC Health + Hospitals/Lincoln where he was pronounced dead, according to the NYPD.

A single shell casing was on the ground, while blood stained the sidewalk in front of an apartment building. A pair of Beats headphones and glasses were left lying in the blood.

Nima Diaboi lives in the building on Stebbins Avenue that was blocked off by investigators. Diaboi says he was on his way home from prayer service at a nearby mosque when he was halted by police tape.

"Shocked something like that happened; to be honest, a safe neighborhood, we have officers on the corner all the time," Diaboi said.

The Department of Education says nearby schools were placed on a temporary shelter-in-place order, but it was lifted quickly.

Police describe the suspect as a male dressed in a grey sweatshirt and grey sweatpants. They say he also had a red and black bookbag.
