Residents and elected officials from Manhasset on Long Island's North Shore have expressed their opposition to Governor Kathy Hochul's proposal to increase the housing stock on the Island.

They argue that the high density housing would strain critical community resources and turn their neighborhoods into urban centers.

Tom Garvey, who has lived in Manhasset for over 20 years, believes the proposal would negatively affect property values.

They feel the Governor is trying to take over local zoning to create space for multi-family housing, which they say Long Islanders do not want.

The plan calls for a three percent increase in housing, or approximately 300,000 units, and would permit the state to intervene in local zoning if the target number is not met.
