The latest unemployment figures for this week show that 1.4 million more Americans filed for unemployment benefits for the first time. We know the coronavirus surges throughout many states, and recently reopened businesses shut their doors to slow the virus's spread.
That most recent stream of claims means that in little more than four months, a staggering 52.7 million people have sought unemployment aid for the first time.
The 1.4 million filing for U.S. jobless aid is the first increase since March. All told, the Labor Department says that roughly 32 million people are receiving unemployment benefits.
