Dozens
of family members and NYPD officers came out to the 20th annual
memorial Mass ceremony in Bensonhurst to pay respects to those who
lost their lives in the line of duty.
A
total of 123 brave men and women
were honored at the ceremony, with officers reading each name of the heroes
from South Brooklyn who died on the job dating back to the early 1900s.
“It’s
hard to do these memorials because you remember
people who died in the line of duty,” said Tatyana Timoshenko, who attended to
honor her late sone Russel. “But at the same time, a celebration of their
lives, memories, and it’s our honor also to be there for other families,
supportive of each other.”
The
ceremony, which took place at Guadalupe Roman Catholic Church, consisted of
uniformed officers and loved ones joining together in prayer and song while
taking a moment to reflect on the lives lost.
