Bridgeport's largest COVID-19 vaccination site opened Monday.
The site is run by the Bridgeport Health Department, and the city is joining forces with Hartford HealthCare and Saint Vincent's Medical Center so they can vaccinate more people.
The site is located at Central High School, 1 Lincoln Blvd., and will be open Monday through Thursday and also on Saturday.
Around 1,000 people a week will be vaccinated at the site, officials say.
Not only is the site at Central High School expanding, but two more vaccination clinics recently opened in Bridgeport. One clinic opened at The University of Bridgeport, and the other opened at Southwest Community Health Center on Fairfield Avenue.
"Over the last four weeks, the discussion, planning and implementation has picked up dramatically in Bridgeport and I think across the country," Mayor Joe Ganim says.
The opening of the mass clinic comes as the city's pushes to get more of its senior population vaccinated. The city has also vaccinated around a dozen homebound seniors.
Officials say getting a vaccine at the site requires an appointment.
Those eligible to get vaccinated can call the city's senior hotline at 203-576-7993, use the VAMS online portal or go through the Hartford HealthCare website.
