STORM WATCH: Heavy rainfall possible Wednesday on Long Island; watch for dangerous surf

TROPICS UPDATE: Hurricane Erin passes 300 miles southeast of Long Island Thursday into Friday. Expect large surf and dangerous rip currents with the chance for beach erosion and coastal flooding at high tide. The worst conditions will be late Thursday night into Friday morning with a gradual improvement Friday into Saturday.
OVERNIGHT: Mostly cloudy and cool with lows near 64 degrees. East wind 5 to 10 mph. Sunrise: 6:08 a.m.
WEDNESDAY: Cloudy with the chance of rain, mainly in the afternoon and evening. Highs near 75 with east winds 10 to 15 mph. Sunset: 7:43 p.m.. Rain showers continue at night and rain may be heavy at times.
THURSDAY: Showers end in the morning then partly sunny. Breezy at times with highs near 75. Lows near 60.
FRIDAY: Mostly sunny and nice. Warm with highs near 80. Lows near 65.
SATURDAY: Mostly sunny and nice. Warm with highs near 80. Lows near 68.
SUNDAY: Partly sunny with the chance for an afternoon shower or storm. Highs near 80. Lows near 67.
