Mayor Eric Adams stated on Friday that New York City has reached a record high for the total number of public and private sector jobs in city history.

The number currently sits at 4,709,400 total jobs, according to new data released by the state Department of Labor.

Adams said the city regained all the 946,000 private sector jobs lost during the COVID-19 pandemic, marking a milestone for New York’s economic recovery. However, he said there is still work to be done.

"This is a day of celebration, but it's also a day of determination. We must be focused to keep moving this city forward. We can't have high unemployment in our Black and brown communities. We have to close the gap. We cannot have children growing up in homeless shelters. We cannot have our New Yorkers thinking our city is not affordable to live in, because the rent is too darn high,” he said.

Adams also mentioned that his administration plans to implement more policies in the coming months to help small businesses grow, attract employers from around the world and put more residents on a path to family-sustaining careers.
