Mayor Eric Adams is responding to Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez’s calls that he resign amid federal criminal investigations into his administration and the departures of top city officials.

Ocasio-Cortez posted on X, “The flood of resignations and vacancies are threatening gov function. Nonstop investigations will make it impossible to recruit and retain a qualified administration. For the good of the city, he should resign.”

But the mayor quickly squashed that type of talk on News 12’s “Ask the Mayor” program.

“I’m really surprised to hear her call for the resignation of the second Black mayor in the city. Here is a person who has stood up for those who were convicted of wrongdoing and saying that they should not be held accountable. So I mean, you know, the public really takes that with a grain of salt.” Adams told News 12’s Amanda Bossard.

The mayor later added, “You know, what is unique about this administration is our ability to stay focused. I don't listen to those comments that come from a, you know, just basically a no-show congresswoman.”

Early this month, federal agents seized electronic devices from multiple top members of the Adams administration as part of what appears to be multiple, separate investigations. Adams himself had his phones seized by the FBI last year.
